Sunrise & Breakfast Tour

Rise and shine.  This tour for early risers starts the day with fresh coffee or juice at Narrow River Kayaks approximately one half hour before sunrise.  Paddlers greet the new day by heading toward the mouth of the river to watch the sun rise above the Atlantic.  Participants have the rare opportunity to experience tranquility and solitude on the river during the height of the tourist season by beating the rest of the world to the punch.  This approximately 2.5 hour round trip tour also provides participants with outstanding photographic and nature viewing opportunities.  After working up an appetite, paddlers have the option of returning for a breakfast (extra charge) of homemade oatmeal buttermilk pancakes, French toast or a choice of the many delicious breakfast sandwiches offered across the street at Narrow River Café.  Freshly squeezed orange juice and a bottomless cup of coffee are included.  Prior paddling experience is recommended.   Tours depart approximately 30 minutes before sunrise every Saturday and Sunday.  Reservations are required for this tour.  Cost:   $59 per adult, $29 per child 11 and under accompanied by an adult.  The tour is also available by appointment with at least 24 hours notice.

Sunset Tour

Sunset Tours depart narrow River kayaks every Tuesday and Thursday in June, July, and August approximately two hours before sunset.  After brief instruction and orientation, paddlers set off on an approximately 2.5 hour round trip tour of the lower portion of the Pettquamscutt Watershed, commonly known as “Narrow River”.  Paddlers will explore the peaceful John H. Chafee National Wildlife Refuge at Pettaquamscutt Cove during at time of the when wildlife is most active, particularly shore birds feeding in the marshlands.  Participants also learn about the unique features of the watershed, including its ecology, geography and diverse history.  Let your worries melt away as the sun gently sets over the western horizon on your return to Narrow River Kayaks.  No prior paddling experience is necessary.  Cost: $59 per adult, $29 per child 11 and under accompanied by an adult.  The tour is also available by appointment with at least 24 hours advance notice.

Full Moon Tour and Hors d’oeuvres (optional)

Arrive at Narrow River Kayaks at sunset for a brief orientation and light fare before setting out on this approximately 2.5 hour nighttime tour.  Witness the splendor and peacefulness of the estuary under the light of the full moon.  Your glow sticks will keep you illuminated the semi-darkness.  You may even see bioluminescent glowing in the dark of the water.  Tours take place during each full moon.  Call ahead for times and details.  Cost: $59 per adult, $29 per child 11 and under accompanied by and adult.

Eco Tour (Lower and/or Upper Narrow River)

This tour focuses on the many unique natural features of the Pettaquamscutt Watershed Area, formed by a receding glacier more than 50,000 years ago.  The route traverses through a freshwater pond, kettle pond and a deep fjord-like lake at the head of the watershed to the estuarine area to the south.  The group will experience firsthand the natural diversity of the watershed while learning about the ecosystem of the river.  Paddlers will learn about Narrow River’s tidal marches, geological formations, flora and fauna, and much more from our experienced naturalist guide.  Hear about the past, present and future concerns for the watershed and efforts being made to preserve the ecosystem.  Wildlife recently seen include whitetail deer, muskrat, river otter, coyote, fox, egrets, herons, plovers, terns, turkey vulture and osprey among others.  Tours depart at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or by appointment with at least 24 hours advance notice.  Cost: $59 per adult, $29 per child 11 and under accompanied by and adult.
